Un rivale del Goldoni: L'abate Chiari e il suo teatro comico explores the life and works of the Abbot Chiari, a significant yet often overshadowed figure in the landscape of 18th-century Italian comedy. Gianfrancesco Sommi-Picenardi delves into Chiari's theatrical contributions, presenting him as a contemporary and rival to the more celebrated Carlo Goldoni. The book examines Chiari's dramatic works, analyzing his style, themes, and the historical context in which he wrote. This study offers valuable insights into the dynamics of Italian theater during a pivotal period of artistic and cultural change, making it essential reading for scholars and enthusiasts of Italian literature and theater history.
