US6 Book I: The Lord's Player This book is a closed system. It is complete as itself and those who read it need not feel obliged to read on. Though it is the first of a six-book hexalogy, The Lord's Player is a standalone story. I first met Emit Archer in 1976, right before I joined military intel and just after he twisted a broken priest's neck. We were 11 years old. The story lands decades later in 2022 as now; Chief Emit Archer is an Army sentinel patrolling a stretch of US Route 6 in Western Colorado. It's one of the safest posts since the East/West Civil War began. Emit can't enjoy it, though, for two reasons: His son is Special Forces deployed near what used to be Florida and the heaviest fighting east of the Mississippi Sea. And the day after tomorrow is Emit's Death Day. We all have one; one date each year that we walk right through never knowing its significance until that last year. But Emit knows his. It's the day after tomorrow.Steeped in southwestern imagery with indigenous Kachina cameos, Book I takes us from the red caves of New Mexico to mandarin orchards on Spanish coasts and back again to the Sage Plains west of the Rockies. US6 chronicles an adventure that is more than one man deserves in a lifetime, but for Emit Archer, it's just Book I.For those intrepid readers pulled by curiosity or an intention toward initiation as one of us six, this edition includes three preview chapters of US6 Book II plus nine pieces by the author. For those unsure whether to read on through the hexalogy, the Appendix material will convince them one way or the other.
