This book is dedicated to all the artists, filmmakers and musicians who toil for years with little reward, but continue to create; making works that stand away from the main stream dribble that we are fed each day. The interviews that I did for my documentary films follow up my work from the 80's with Unsound magazine. I traveled across the United States and interviewed mainly musicians who were in the magazine, and involved in the experimental music, tape, noise, industrial music scenes. This book is an artifact of those interviews with pics from the films. In the films the interviews were intercut with live performance footage and other images, for the sake of the printed media I have taken the interviews and made them flow together, like a stream of consciousness where the artist discusses their history and beliefs. Unsound magazine was published from 1983-1987, it was founded by myself and Christopher Rankin, with assistance from Tamara F. In 2014 I started filming interviews with musicians and others who were involved in the scene where the magazine originated from and I created six films. From 2014 to 2018 I shot and edited the films: The New Punks, The Great American Cassette Masters, Ziners, The People's Music, Hunting Lodge: The Story of Two Nomad Souls, Media about Media about Media: The Negativland Story.
