The book takes seriously the questions the surrounding culture has stopped asking well. What actually is trust, and why does it matter more than a feeling? What does work do to the worker across a career? What kind of friendship is required to become a person worth being, and why is it so rare? What happens to a country when its saying and its doing come apart, and how does a country find its way back? What would you have done, if you had been asked to hide the child the soldiers were hunting - and what does that question, honestly considered, ask of your life right now?
The book does not tell the reader what to think. It offers a way of looking, and it asks the reader to do the work the framework makes possible - to find, in their own life, the shapes the chapters describe, and to see what has been in view the whole time.
