Noor Kaur Rai grows up in Bhootan village in the Doaba region of Punjab, where life moves quietly between fields, courtyards, and family traditions. As a child, she dreams of a life beyond the village, but adulthood arrives in a way she never expected. In 2009, Noor is rushed into marriage and moves to her husband's family home in Atwal village.
