Two words and a story. A story of a journey from here to there, and there to nowhere. On this journey exists no thing and every thing, that which is and that which is not; yet, consequently must be. Tyrannos - a word used by the Ancient Greeks to signify a ruler who came into power outside of the traditional methods, commonly by seizing power for oneself. Taken power or power one makes for themself.
Basileus - an Ancient Greek word referring to a legitimate ruler, one who was Born to power through hereditary or customary rights. This is the power one is given at birth, the power one has; not by choice, but as who they are. The first of Baylen's books, this work marks the beginning of a larger exploration into the philosophy of selfhood. Written not as an academic treatise but as a living meditation, it invites readers into the same inquiry that has shaped his own life: What does it mean to exist, and who are we when faced with the mystery of ourselves?
