By the time of Abraham Lincoln's death, all slaves had been freed, yet white society still did not accept them or those Caucasians who associated with them. Within this tumultuous historical background, Mickey Mongiovi tells a tale based on actual events of two children thrust into the wilds of the world in Timmy and Lindy.
John D. Harrison is a different sort of plantation owner. He sees African-Americans as equal workers and allows his children, Timmy and Lindy, to play with the black children, which is still an unaccepted practice. When Mrs. Peabody, the town gossip, lies about the Harrisons, the rumor spreads and the Ku Klux Klan burns the plantation. The fire claims Timmy and Lindy's parents. Now Timmy, 11, and Lindy, 5, are left in the care of a black family. When life takes a turn for the worst, the two children set out from Tennessee for California to locate a long lost uncle. They embark on an incredible journey into the dangers that await them. An exciting, fact-based epic, Timmy and Lindy takes readers back to a time when equality was a debated issue and life was a day-to-day struggle for survival.
