Ben was raised in an orphanage in Arizona, after graduating from the orphanage school Ben hangs around the streets of Phoenix and works in the fields for a couple of years and he realizes that he does not have much of a future doing the stoop labor type of work, so he joins the Army during the early days of the Korean war, after basic training that is where he spends the next two years, after completing two tours there he returns to the U.S. and is reassigned to a base near the swamps, he is to be a survival instructor for the remaining months of his enlistment. Upon arriving at the new base he learns that his records has been lost. Without those one can not officially be assigned to a company, and you don't get paid just a little draw for necessitates, it takes three months before the records are found and he gets his back pay. He request a ten-day leave and it is granted because the new trainee's are not due to arrive for two weeks. He leaves the base and walks to a town about five miles away, there he encounters a crooked Sheriff, and his deputy's, and bribed county officials and some underworld types, he meets a girl who helps him to avoid getting arrested or worse. They devise a plan with some new friends to overcome the crooked cops and county officials, and then, and then, and then, well you'll have to read the rest inside the book. The Ten-Day Leave is a fast moving story of intrigue, deceit, loyalty, love and friendship with an unusual twist at the end.
