The Spiritual Franciscans by David Saville Muzzey is a historical account of the Franciscan movement that emerged in the 13th century. The book delves into the origins of the movement, tracing its roots to the life and teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, and explores how it evolved over time. The author provides a detailed analysis of the spiritual and theological beliefs of the Spiritual Franciscans, who were a group of Franciscan friars who sought to live a more radical and authentic form of the Franciscan life. Muzzey examines the key figures and events that shaped the movement, including the controversies that arose within the Franciscan order over issues such as poverty, obedience, and the role of the Church. The book also explores the impact of the Spiritual Franciscans on the wider Church and society, particularly in their efforts to reform the Church and promote social justice. Muzzey highlights the contributions of notable figures such as St. Bonaventure, John Duns Scotus, and William of Ockham, who were all influenced by the Spiritual Franciscan movement.Overall, The Spiritual Franciscans offers a comprehensive and insightful look at one of the most significant religious movements in history, and its enduring legacy in the Catholic Church and beyond. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
