THE SUBMIT ACT
Her body. Their law. One signature away from losing everything.
Lisa never wanted to become anyone's cautionary tale. Three weeks into her sophomore year, a night she can't fully recall - what started as a fun night playing pool at a fraternity party ends badly. Now drugged and raped - a decision that was never hers to make - leaves her pregnant and terrified. Who did this to her? She doesn't have a clue, and she now suspects every young man who looks her way on campus.
In the America she grew up in, it would have meant a doctor's appointment, a private matter, a hard week and then a life reclaimed.
But that America is gone.
Under the new Christian instituted Submit Act, Lisa's body and pregnancy became state property from the moment her doctor confirmed she's pregnant. Her phone, her search history, her pharmacy records - all of it feeds into a computer registry designed to catch women like her before they can act. The law doesn't ask how it happened. It doesn't care. It only demands that she carry her pregnancy to term, or answers for the consequences in a courtroom built to make an example of her.
Comply, and she loses her name to a system that has already decided what she's for - a baby-making machine. Fight the law and she becomes exactly the kind of danger the regime warns its citizens about - a pregnant young woman with nothing left to lose.
Lisa has forty-one days before the law closes in on her completely. A Canadian underground network offers her one narrow, dangerous way out - but every hour she waits, the walls get closer, and the people who are supposed to protect her look more and more like the ones enforcing her sentence.
The Submit Act imagines an America where the Christian Nationalist Movement has succeeded, and the government it created has criminalized reproductive autonomy entirely, turning survivors into suspects, and private grief into public prosecution.
For readers of The Handmaid's Tale who want their dystopia sharp, urgent, credible and impossible to put down.
Will Lisa submit - or will she burn it all down?
