Murder is at the heart of this conspiracy that takes you from a small town to the heart of London, it begins with the murder of a well known lady Rachel Harper in Winfield who has been found murdered in what appears to be a ritual murder with markings on her body. The town holds many secrets one of those is the fire of an orphanage and a missing woman, who's sister Eleanor is a detective in the town. As Eleanor begins to investigate the murder she begins to be threatened to not go any further in her investigations, but she is determined to not be threatened and goes forward and finally gets justice for Rachel Harper. The investigation and the jailing of the people involved hits the papers and one man Jonathan Carter reads the story and immediately realises that this murder could be connected to his own investigations of the murder of his wife and that of a Society lady called Lady Margaret Danvers, her father has asked Jonathan Carter to investigate the suspicious death of his daughter. Jonathan travels down to see Eleanor and her colleague Liam and asks them to help him with his own investigation they take leave from their jobs and travel to London, but things begin to escalate and Eleanor and Liam decide to leave their jobs and move to London, they set up an investigation corporation with Jonathan and so they begin their investigations. It leads them to the Rook Society and their involvement in the murders of the women, the fire at the orphanage and the disappearance of Eleanor's sister Sarah.
