We argue about race as though the only choices were to deny it or to worship it. The Racial Egregore refuses both.
Jahn Hooks makes a startling claim: modern race is not merely a category but an egregore -- an occult term for a thought-form created and fed by human attention until it takes on a life of its own and begins to act back upon its makers. This one was assembled from law, money, pseudoscience, fear, trauma, pride, and centuries of repetition. It turns living peoples into ranked breeds and then insists the ranking was always there.
Drawing on Christian and esoteric tradition, documented history, hard-eyed etymology, and modern genetics, the book traces how the spell was cast, whom it serves, and how it feeds on the political left and right alike -- on the anti-racist and the reactionary, the census form and the backlash, the diversity seminar and the root-race myth. All of it is fuel for the same machine.
But the book is not only diagnosis. Its counter-argument is its heart: peoplehood is real; the ladder is the lie. Human variation is real and beautiful; the hierarchy built on top of it is a counterfeit. The person is older than the category, and the breath is older than the box.
Ranging from the substantia nigra to the Solomonic dynasty, from Justin Martyr to Marcus Garvey, from the science of melanin to the maroon settlements that built freedom outside the color line, The Racial Egregore is at once an exorcism and a homecoming.
This is not a comfortable book, and it is not meant to be. It is a counterspell.
