That fateful attack on the Twin Towers in New York City on September 11, 2001 had a
profound effect not only on the United States of America, but around the world. Many other
countries felt the pain and loss of the Americans and feared their own security could be breeched
by terrorism.
pick up my only child from school that morning. My urgent need to snuggle close with her was
overwhelming! She was confused about my anxiety. How could I possibly explain the gravity of this
situation to a ten-year-old girl who had been raised within a very loving and protective family?
I thought my best solution was to watch the television reports with her about the event. When I
asked if she understood what had just taken place, her response was, Mommy, I don't like this
TV show at all. It's so boring. Can't we watch something fun? It was then I realized this tragedy should be explained to children in a different approach with the hope of their understanding the seriousness caused by terroristic acts. Hence, my heartfelt creation of 'The Ponderings'
