The man she has loved all her life has married another woman. Can a broken heart ever learn to love again?
For as long as Miss Beatrice Edmundson can remember, the Duke of Norwich has been the man of her dreams.Dashing, powerful, and imposing, with dark hair and stormy grey eyes, the duke has been the object of Beatrice's admiration since childhood. As their homes stand beside one another in Bath's fashionable Royal Crescent, she has spent years hoping that one day he will look at her and realize that they are meant to be together. But Beatrice's dreams are shattered when she discovers that the duke has married another woman. Heartbroken, she has no choice but to watch from afar as the man she loves builds a family of his own. Though her heart remains faithful to him, Beatrice refuses to wish him anything but happiness-even as the years pass and her own chances of finding a husband grow fewer. Then tragedy strikes the Duke of Norwich's family. When those he loves need help, Beatrice does not hesitate to come to their aid, even if doing so means sacrificing her own hopes for marriage and happiness. But as Beatrice becomes an important part of the duke's life once again, something unexpected begins to happen.
Could the friendship they have built become something more? Can a man who has already loved and lost find the courage to love again? And after waiting so many years for the man of her dreams, will Beatrice finally discover that true love sometimes arrives when it is least expected?
