Acest volum reprezintă convergența a câtorva izvoare diferite din viața mea. Primul dintre acestea este aprecierea sinceră a Scripturii creștine pe care am avut-o toată viața. Îmi aduc aminte cum, la vârsta de patru ani, prețuiam o Biblie pentru copii, iar acea Biblie se află încă pe un raft al bibliotecii mele. Cel de-al doilea izvor, aproximativ în aceeași perioadă a vieții mele, era atracția mea față de pastori, atât de puternică, încât în inima mea de copil îmi doream să devin unul dintre ei. Dacă îi pot ajuta, aceasta mi-e dorința - și deci această resursă.
Un al treilea și al patrulea izvor s-au unit cu primele două, prin slujirea mea printre elevii de liceu din Africa de Sud, urmată de preluarea studierii limbii grecești a Noului Testament. Ca o consecință a acestor două izvoare combinându-se cu o trăsătură de caracter dominantă, am realizat că pasiunile mele, vis-à-vis de Scriptură, greaca Noului Testament, Africa și pastori, s-au unit în diferite vârtejuri și curente, și, de aici s-a născut lucrarea aceasta.
Următorul izvor este remarcabil: cu sincere mulțumiri pentru viața și slujirea lui, îi sunt îndatorat doctorului Cullen Story de la seminarul teologic al universității Princeton, care a încurajat în mod repetat, experiența insulei izolate. Aceasta ar putea fi de exemplu experiența unui naufragiat pe o insulă izolată care are la el doar un Nou Testament în greacă, un lexicon al Noului Testament și o concordanță a Noului Testament. Cu acestea și prin călăuzirea Duhului Sfânt, acesta caută să facă o exegeză a Noului Testament. În esență, Trimisul este o reflecție asupra încurajării doctorului Story.
Foarte conștient de propriile limitări, eu sper totuși ca această resursă să vină în ajutorul celor ce trudesc în contexte foarte diferite față de ale mele.
