The Academy of American Poets defines a triolet as a short poem of eight lines with only two rhymes used throughout. The requirements of this fixed form are straightforward: the first line is repeated in the fourth line and the seventh line; the second line is repeated in the final line. I came across this style of poetry during a competition. It's short but challenging since it had to convey what I wanted to say in a structured and interesting way... ding, ding, ding, ding, ding- ha' ha.' Yes, I like it. I think I'll use a triolet.
