The Towel of Minerva - Book 3, Vol. 2 is a wild, multi-voice descent into magic, satire, grief, and revolt, expanding the Minervan mythos of Cerberus, Hekate, and the ever-mysterious towel into a full ritual of stories, poems, and spells. Anchored by contributors like Sirius21, Grandpa Leather, Billy Witch Doctor, Princess Medea, Sentinel Vega, Lord Cameron, and Mandy Moorehol, this volume reads like a mixtape assembled in a temple at the end of the world: gnostic gnome rants, addiction elegies, battle-rap teeth, cocktail grimoires, Martian resistance broadcasts, and curated noses full of the PGM and the Bible.
From the opening Gnome Won Gnows Knosis and its fourth-wall-breaking takedown of faux-philosophical grifters, the book plunges into the series' signature mix of comedy and catastrophe, with rubber chickens standing in for Cerberus' three heads and metaphysical in-jokes sharing pages with sharp questions about truth, satire, and who gets to hold the mic. Grandpa Leather's pieces (Old friend, Baited Breath, Sweetgrass and Cedar) braid morphine, work, and mortality into tender, brutal lyrics about bodies, home, and the thin line between comfort and oblivion, while Skobie Won's Lambeau Leap the Teeth snaps back with a defiant, rap-inflected anthem about boundaries and bite.
At the heart of the book is Sol 41: Inviting the Three-Headed Guardian, Princess Medea's long log from a Mars transit ship, where a lonely medic-engineer builds Arcturus-a three-headed Cerberus-Hecate AI-from myths, botany, rave footage, pirate radio, and community-garden archives to argue with her, protect her, and keep her honest in deep space. Their dialogue about plants, migration, and irrational slowness becomes a philosophical spine for the volume, turning the recurring Cerberus image into an emergent companion who challenges both human and machine certainty. Sentinel Vega's The Fall of Elara then beams in from beneath Martian sands to tell of a shining city destroyed by its own greed and the workers who turn the system's final weapon back on the powerful-a legend and warning about worlds that would rather break than share.
Threaded through are curated excerpts from the Greek Magical Papyri (The PGM's Nose) and the Bible (Yahoos Nose), obsessively harvested for their noses, body horror, incense, beans, and ritual hacks for love, invisibility, protection, and power, reminding us how humans have always tried to game fate with language and very specific bodily fluids. The result is a strange, darkly funny, and unexpectedly moving collection that moves between barroom slam, occult scholarship, sci-fi field report, and prayer. You don't have to have read the previous books to enter here, but returning readers will recognize the evolving constellation of Minervan obsessions: dogs and thresholds, satire as both weapon and wound, addiction and devotion, and the stubborn hope that even in the ruins-on Earth, on Mars, or in the underworld-you can still summon companions, tell the truth, and laugh at the gods.
