On February 11, 2008, Sergeant Tyrell Seth Williams was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Austin, Texas - less than three months after an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps and three combat tours in Iraq. He was thirty-one years old. The driver was never found.

Her thesis examines posttraumatic growth in combat veterans, research born directly from her own hardest question: how do we grow from what breaks us?
