Peer pressure is something that everyone including adults has to deal with. This Is Me is a story that encourages children to not be influenced by their peers to conform, and be someone that they are not. Showing strength and self- confidence, Airy Jeanine, the central character of the book, learns how to be accepting of the fact that she is different, and with the realization inspires her friends that they too should just be themselves and not try to be someone they are not. In understanding that it is okay to be happy and confident with the way that they look, even if they are ridiculed, Airy and her friends, embraced who they are, refused to be followers, and went about being themselves. Their actions and appearance caused them to stand out, and be seen as being different but for them, they were content in their carefree world. At that young age, it is a strong-minded decision, and their change of attitude and self-acceptance is a lesson that others young and old can learn from.
