Théo Villeneuve collects questions. This summer, he's got a new one: why do fireflies blink instead of just glowing?
On a warm evening in the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood of Montréal, Théo spots a tiny light blinking in the garden below his balcony. It's not a star - it's a firefly. And Théo has to know why it blinks instead of just staying lit.
He asks his grandfather on the park bench. He asks the street musician outside the café. He asks the baker closing up her shop for the night. Everyone has a different guess - and none of them feel quite right.
But as Théo watches the meadow fill with hundreds of blinking lights, he starts to wonder if the fireflies aren't glowing, saying hello, or cooling down at all.
Maybe they're doing exactly what he does best: collecting questions, and blinking is how they ask them back.
