The Portal is the first installment in The Tesla Chronicles, an ambitious historical science-fiction thriller series that reimagines one of history's greatest inventors, Nikola Tesla, as the discoverer of a secret so profound that it was hidden from the world for more than a century.
The novel begins in 1899 at Tesla's experimental station in Colorado Springs. While conducting high-voltage resonance experiments, Tesla observes anomalies that challenge everything he understands about physics. What begins as a quest to transmit energy wirelessly evolves into something far stranger: evidence that the Earth itself possesses a hidden electromagnetic structure capable of producing brief, measurable windows or portals. Tesla becomes convinced that certain frequencies, locations, and harmonic alignments can unlock these phenomena, revealing that the planet is far more than a passive object in space.
Over the following decades, Tesla continues investigating these discoveries in secret. By the time of his death in New York in 1943, he believes he has uncovered a network of locations around the globe connected by a deeper resonance system. Fearing that governments or powerful interests would misuse the knowledge, he inadvertently launches a multi-generational effort to protect Tesla's work from those who seek to control it.
The story then traces the hidden journey of Tesla's research through successive generations of caretakers. His family safeguards the documents for decades after Tesla's death, believing the world is not ready for what he discovered. The secret is eventually passed to Hunter Mandic, a brilliant but isolated researcher who inherits both the journals and the responsibility that comes with them.
By 2026, Hunter has spent most of his life decoding Tesla's work while living in near-total anonymity. Working alone, he has solved much of Tesla's resonance theory but remains unable to identify the final piece of the puzzle: the geographical nodes where the Earth's hidden harmonic structure becomes concentrated enough to create a portal. His search eventually leads him to Dr. Trevor Thompson, a disgraced physicist whose own controversial research into geomagnetic coherence nodes mirrors Tesla's findings from an entirely different direction.
Though vastly different men, Hunter and Thompson realize they are investigating two halves of the same mystery. As they compare Tesla's journals with Thompson's theoretical models, they uncover evidence that certain famous locations, including the Great Pyramid at Giza and the Eiffel Tower, may play a role in a worldwide network of resonance points. Their combined research suggests that ancient structures, natural geological formations, and Tesla's harmonic equations are all connected to the same hidden phenomenon.
As the pair move closer to understanding Tesla's work, they discover they are not alone. Government intelligence veteran Brandon Littler has spent decades pursuing the missing Tesla files, convinced that the inventor's final discoveries were concealed rather than lost. At the same time, a powerful private organization known as the Lyndstone Group begins closing in on the same trail. What starts as an academic investigation quickly becomes a high-stakes race between researchers, intelligence operatives, and shadowy organizations willing to do anything to obtain Tesla's secrets.
At its heart, The Portal is both a thriller and an origin story. The novel introduces the central mythology of the series: Tesla's discovery that the Earth contains naturally occurring resonance windows, that specific locations around the world serve as keys to understanding them, and that knowledge of these portals could change humanity's understanding of distance, time, energy, and history itself.
