The Tale of Bobby Bobolink by Arthur Scott Bailey is a delightful narrative centered around the lively and musical bird, Bobby Bobolink, who returns to Pleasant Valley for the summer. The story begins with the anticipation of Bobby's arrival, as his joyful songs are eagerly awaited by the other birds. Upon his return, Bobby, with his cheerful demeanor and vibrant plumage, quickly becomes a beloved figure in the meadow. The narrative follows Bobby as he navigates various adventures, including joining the Pleasant Valley Singing Society, where he must pass a singing test to become a member. His melodious voice and spirited songs win him admiration, although not without a hint of jealousy from some, like the old Mr. Crow. Bobby's life in the meadow is not without challenges. He and his wife must cleverly protect their nest from potential threats, such as the curious Johnnie Green and the predatory Henry Hawk. The story also introduces other characters like Mr. Catbird, who attempts to mimic Bobby's songs, and Mr. Frog, who humorously critiques Bobby's attire. As the tale unfolds, Bobby's family grows, and the impending haying season prompts a swift relocation to Cedar Swamp to ensure their safety. Throughout the story, Bobby's unwavering cheerfulness and quick wit help him overcome obstacles, endearing him to readers and fellow creatures alike.
