Sybil Or The Two Nations is a novel written by Benjamin Disraeli, first published in 1845. The story is set in England during the 1830s, a time of great social and political upheaval. The novel follows the lives of two characters from different social classes: Charles Egremont, a young aristocrat, and Sybil Gerard, the daughter of a radical factory worker. Egremont is disillusioned with the corruption and hypocrisy of his own class and becomes interested in the plight of the working class. He meets Sybil and becomes involved in the struggles of the working class against the wealthy and powerful. The novel explores themes of social inequality, poverty, and the struggle for political and social change. Disraeli, who himself came from a wealthy family but was sympathetic to the working class, uses the novel to critique the social and economic system of his time. Sybil Or The Two Nations is considered a classic of Victorian literature and an important work of social commentary. It is also notable for its portrayal of strong female characters, particularly Sybil, who is portrayed as intelligent, passionate, and politically engaged.Notwithstanding the confidence of Lady St Julians, and her unrivalled information, the health of the king did not improve: but still it was the hay fever, only the hay fever. An admission had been allowed to creep into the Court Circular, that his majesty has been slightly indisposed within the last few days; but then it was soon followed by a very positive assurance, that his majesty's favourite and long-matured resolution to give a state banquet to the knights of the four orders, was immediately to be carried into effect. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
