Suddenly, a chill filled the air along with a haunting scream that echoed into their hearts and melted into their minds forever. The scream was a mixture of agony and fear and it evaporated into the atmosphere, mixing in with the very air they breathed.
It was that night that started it all; it was that very haunting memory that had turned an ordinary peasant girl named Mechaya into a stubborn heroine who would stop at nothing to save the remains of her family....and her kingdom. It was also that night that her parents disappeared.
In what seemed like a whirlwind of events, Mechaya and her siblings have found themselves forced to enter into the army of Rosenheir to train against an old enemy returning. People all over the kingdom were disappearing just as their parents had-leaving behind an eerie ash mark in the shape of a sword resting between two menacing eyes. Where did they disappear to? Did they die? The questions continue to rise when Mechaya begins having strange dreams and finds out that her brother, Elijah, can actually see these strange vanishings. Even more ominous, her brother discovers that the enemy is not of the human sort, but rather created out of some otherworldly shadows.
After a trip to a hidden library guarded by a deranged magician, Mechaya has at least some direction for her quest. She discovers that someone had written a journal prophesying the mysterious vanishings. In this first book in the Rosenheir Series we follow Mechaya as she sets out to find answers while blindly following her riddled dreams as her guide. The only thing that Mechaya is certain of is that she must make sense of her puzzling dreams and find this book of prophecies before the shadows get their hands on it.
