In the near future, the world is on its last downward spiral. Global warming is claiming crops and water resources as famine and plague are claiming lives by the thousands. Rumors of war are profligate and tensions between nations have never been higher. With imports and exports now nonexistent, every nation must stand on its own protecting itself as well as its resources. For the United States, former President Parrish now known as the Great Leader, has all the answers. He declares martial law in order to protect the citizens from outside forces. But for one family in the rural south his methods are recognized as less than honorable. When the military begins busting down doors collecting citizens the Sanders family plans to escape. During the attempt to escape, only Jax Sanders manages to flee into the woods as the rest of the family is taken into custody. Jax's younger brother, Jared, is forced to become a new recruit for the corrupted military. This story follows the point of view of both brothers as they struggle to survive in a world that is no longer reserved about its evil. Will they be able to keep the faith that was instilled in them or will the world turn them against everyone and everything they knew before?
