Not illustrated.1917 Excerpt: ... September, 1918 SUGGESTIONS FOR THE MONTH The superintendent should have a yearly program as well as a weekly order of service. His plans should be made well in advance so that he may have ample time to study, revise, and perfect them. He should be prepared early in September to announce to the workers his fall and winter program. One Sunday in September, or early in October, should be observed as Rally Day. Make an earnest effort to have every member present. Use special invitations, messengers, visitors, personal appeals, public advertisements. Try, also, to reach those of the community who do not attend any school. Guard against proselyting, however, even if you must actually refuse to accept a new member from another school. The Eighth Commandment applies to this as well as to all other forms of stealing. Rally Day may also be made a Forward Step Day. A blank card may be handed to everyone present and each urged to pledge on it some advance step that he will take. The service otherwise may be much the same as for Decision Day. Of course, those who are not Christians are asked to accept Christ as Saviour as their forward step; but everyone is requested to make some pledge, such as: I will be more regular in my attendance upon Sunday-school. I will be on time at Sunday-school. I will pray at least twice a day. I will read the Bible every day. I will stop smoking cigarettes. I will stop saying unkind things. I will not refuse to do my share of the Sundayschool work. I will study the Sunday-school lesson during the week. No one should see these cards except the teacher, the pastor, and the superintendent; but these thee should study the pledges carefully and prayerfully and plan personally to help and encourage each one who takes a forward s...
