Every night at midnight, beneath its strange amber glow, the dead appear for exactly sixty seconds. Among them is Eliza. She does not return to frighten her brother. She returns with clues-a permit date, a hidden room, a sealed section of the building, and fragments of a truth that someone has worked for years to erase.
Micah follows the clues into forgotten city archives and discovers that the official blueprints contain a terrible lie. The fourth-floor East Wing was supposedly a structural void, but the original plans reveal a series of illegal residential units hidden from public records. Known as the Dead Zone, the rooms were created to bypass occupancy and fire-safety regulations, leaving the people inside with almost no chance of escape when the fire began.
With the help of archivist Jace and Serena Hawthorne, whose father also died in the fire, Micah uncovers the Gilded Roster-a secret document listing the people assigned to the hidden wing on the night of the disaster. Eliza's name is on the list. So is Serena's father's. The victims were not merely in the wrong place at the wrong time. Someone knew they were there.
The evidence leads directly to Raymond Carter, the powerful Director of Development who authorized the illegal structural changes and later helped conceal the truth. Micah realizes that the streetlight is not simply a haunting. It is a supernatural courtroom, giving the forgotten victims sixty seconds each night to testify.
But Carter is determined to silence them forever. When a demolition crew is sent to remove the streetlight, Micah realizes that destroying the lamp could destroy the last connection between the dead and the truth.
With Serena and the surviving witnesses beside him, Micah races to gather the permits, blueprints, digital records, and testimony before Ashbourne Way is erased. Under the amber light, the dead return together, exposing the crime that the living tried to bury.
The truth finally reaches the public. Carter is indicted on forty-eight counts of manslaughter, and the Gilded District is declared a crime scene once again.
At dawn, Micah returns to Ashbourne Way. The streetlight flickers, but Eliza does not appear. For the first time in five years, he understands why.
The dead have been heard.
Their names will not be erased.
And the streetlight can finally go dark.
