For Stanislav Riha, art was never a profession to be chosen. It was as natural and necessary as breathing. The Alchemy of Emotion explores the life, philosophy, and creative evolution of a Czech artist whose work transforms personal experience, emotion, and imagination into a powerful visual language that defies conventional categories.
Born in Prague in 1952, Riha grew up surrounded by centuries of artistic heritage, where gothic architecture, baroque grandeur, and everyday life merged into a living gallery of inspiration. From an early fascination with drawing to a lifelong engagement with surrealism, he developed an artistic vision rooted in curiosity, experimentation, and an unwavering desire to explore the unseen dimensions of human experience.
Influenced by masters such as Salvador Dalà while forging a voice entirely his own, Riha gradually moved beyond traditional painting into a multidisciplinary practice that combines abstraction, symbolism, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and mixed media. His groundbreaking approach, which he later described as Surreal Abstract, emerged from years of studying emotion, creativity, memory, and the psychological forces that shape human lives.
This volume follows Riha's remarkable journey from his artistic education in Prague to the mature philosophy that guides his work today. It reveals an artist driven not by trends or commercial ambition, but by an almost ritual devotion to creation. Working daily across multiple projects and mediums, Riha approaches art as a process of discovery, allowing ideas to evolve organically while balancing intuition with discipline.
Rich with insights into his influences, methods, and worldview, The Alchemy of Emotion offers readers a rare glimpse into the mind of an artist who sees creativity as both exploration and transformation. More than a portrait of an accomplished visual artist, this book is a meditation on imagination, resilience, and the enduring power of art to illuminate the hidden landscapes of the human soul. For artists, collectors, and lovers of contemporary art, this is an inspiring journey into a lifetime devoted to creation.
