Spondylosis (spondylosis deformans) is a degenerative, usually relapsing-remitting disease. It is similar to ankylosing spondylitis in humans. It causes stiffness and ossification in the lower thoracic and lumbar spine of the dog.
Complications include joint wear (osteoarthritis), intervertebral disc damage, incontinence, and paralysis.

Causes include a hereditary predisposition, prolonged physical overexertion, age, inflammation, obesity, injuries, hormonal changes, a mineral and vitamin deficiency, metabolic disorders, and liver and kidney weakness.

The symptoms, due to the pain, include a curved back, reluctance to move, vocalizations of pain during certain movements, sensitivity to touch on the back, weakness in the back legs and limping, difficulty getting up and lying down, and a stiff gait.

What helps us humans can also be used successfully in animals. Anyone who wants to help their sick dog without chemicals and potential side effects should try homeopathy and Schuessler salts. Both therapies activate the body's self-healing and immune system, restoring balance to the animal.
