And so it was that, as Priscilla completed her first novel, that she reckoned no one would believe anyway was not entirely the case.
Special Envoy 2: In Service to Her Country-the sixth installment in 'The Priscilla Series' -opens in 1991 with the CIA director expressing annoyance after discovering that his special agent, Priscilla J. PJ Austin-Bernhardt-not known for being maternal-is pregnant. He has an assignment for her.
Shortly after giving birth, Priscilla experiences difficulties with her mother-in-law, who wants to raise her baby boy. However, after asserting her role in that regard, Priscilla takes her baby, the nanny, her assistant, and her chauffeur/bodyguard on a trip to the South of France, where she hopes to try her hand at writing.
After settling into a cozy, quaint villa in Marmande, Priscilla develops a writing streak and meets a new writer friend, but he is not who he pretends to be. Then, her CIA handler unexpectedly presents her with her new assignment.
When something peculiar happens at the Marmande villa, the CIA moves Priscilla and her entourage to a safe house near Luzern, Switzerland, where something even more unexpected occurs.
It all happens so fast.
The plot features many twists and turns that readers will not see coming, especially concerning baby Austin and Nanny Hettie, lest one forgets the wayward chauffeur/bodyguard Shelton. Yet, with her mind set on completing her mission, nothing can stop Priscilla, not sad news from home, not even when her baby's life is on the line. Priscilla has become a hard-core secret agent.
Throughout, readers will gain insight into the turmoil that Eastern European nations, mainly how the former Yugoslavia endured as they transformed from communist states to democracies, especially when severing ties with the former Soviet Union. Readers will also be captivated by how refugees navigate the terrain of foreign territory in their quest for new lives.
As with all of Priscilla's secret missions, the undercover Collective Force unit of special ops in the CIA is called back into action to avert harm to her. Yet, as the story reaches its gripping conclusion, even the CF boys are in for a surprise.
