Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Spearmint (1903-1924) was a classic winning English Thoroughbred racehorse and a sire that was bred by Sir Tatton Sykes at the famous Sledmere Stud. Spearmint was purchased by Major Eustace Loder for 300 guineas as a yearling. He was trained by Peter-Purcell Gilpin at Newmarket. The colt's racing career was limited due to his bad front legs, and he made only five starts, winning three times, including the 1906 Epsom Derby, England's most prestigious flat race. Eleven days later he won France's most important race, the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp Racecourse, after leading from start to finish over the two mile journey.
