Millones de gatos is a bilingual picture book designed for shared reading in both classroom and home settings, combining storytelling, rhythm, and early language awareness in a natural and accessible way.
The story is presented with a rhyming text in Spanish, created to be read aloud and to highlight the musicality of the language, alongside an accompanying English text that follows the same narrative without forcing rhyme or mirroring the Spanish structure word for word. This approach respects the linguistic integrity of each language while maintaining clear narrative correspondence.
Through this bilingual format, children can identify characters, actions, and events across two languages and understand that the same story can be expressed differently depending on the language used. English serves as narrative support, offering contextual exposure rather than direct translation, which encourages comprehension without formal instruction.
With a clean layout, full-color illustrations, and a structured design, Millones de gatos is suitable for:
- classroom read-alouds
- oral comprehension activities
- an introduction to bilingualism through literature
- reading promotion and project-based learning
The book includes a QR code that provides access to a downloadable companion activity booklet. This optional resource offers visual and creative activities designed to reinforce comprehension while keeping the focus on shared reading.
Inspired by Millions of Cats by Wanda Gág (1928).
