Mendizábal es el vigésimo segundo de los Episodios Nacionales del escritor español Benito Pérez Galdós. Publicado en 1898, toma su título de la personalidad del político progresista Juan Álvarez Mendizábal, presidente del Consejo de Ministros en España, entre 1835 y 1836. La envoltura literaria la protagonizan el joven romántico Fernando Calpena, su amigo Pedro Hillo, clérigo ilustrado, y dos mujeres que cierran un triángulo amoroso. Una trama folletinesca popular protagonizada por Calpena, Hillo y Aura (Aurora), doncella huérfana pero heredera de una gran fortuna, le sirve al escritor de base para narrar y analizar la política del ministro Mendizábal en el periodo conocido como de la desamortización de bienes eclesiásticos, la más polémica medida de su gobierno.
