In Hazel's Head is a chapter book about a middle school girl with autism. This book looks at everyday situations through the lens of a neurodivergent mind. When viewing the world through Hazel's eyes, the reader is able to grasp perspectives they might not attain on their own. In Hazel's Head explores complex emotional and social obstacles and how they are altered by outside stimulus and unique ways of thinking. With more attention being brought to light surrounding living on the spectrum, this book looks to smooth the bridge of misunderstanding. Just like any other youth, Hazel wants friendship, laughter, and love. By removing biases and increasing understanding, our world will be one step closer in the right direction. Everyone is worthy of the same love and respect, regardless of their differences. Hazel will tell you herself... I feel the world more. I might not understand sarcasm or why a joke is funny, but I feel the pain of being laughed at. I feel the loneliness of wanting a friend to sit with at lunch and I desire to be loved as much as everyone else. I am smart, I am kind, and I love to laugh. I just see and feel things a little bit differently. Hopefully by seeing inside my head, you'll understand why I am how I am, and love me still the same. In Hazel's Head hopes to blend perception and truth through a variety of real-life situations that bring both laughter and ah-ha realizations.
