El hilo conductor de La flor de piedra es el Proyecto de FilosofÃa 3/18, creado por Matthew Lipman y Ann Sharp. Pero se trata de un libro abierto, de perspectiva amplia, donde todo el mundo puede extraer las cuestiones de fondo implÃcitas en el objetivo de aprender a pensar mejor por uno mismo desde una perspectiva democrática y de compromiso con la sociedad.
Es la historia de una experiencia llevada a cabo durante más de treinta años en el CEIP ES PONT, de Palma (Mallorca), donde queda patente que la filosofÃa ayuda a formar individuos más conscientes de su proceso de pensamiento, de su pertenencia a un mundo en cambio continuo y a la dimensión social de nuestro paso por la vida.
Del libro puede deducirse que el progreso individual viene dado por la comprensión de uno mismo, a la vez que los demás juegan en ello un papel fundamental.
En el prólogo, Irene de Puig dice que se trata de la aventura de una maestra. Efectivamente, el relato conjuga vivencias personales de la autora con el devenir de un proceso donde los alumnos de Infantil y Primaria -verdaderos autores y autoras-, proporcionan una visión universal, a la par que práctica, de los inicios al pensamiento filosófico.
