En esta ocasión, el Doctor Bernstein ofrece lo que podrÃamos calificar como una secuela algo más compleja de sus publicaciones básicas. El público objetivo de este libro es maduro en cuestiones relacionadas con la inversión, que busca un libro para leer, releer y trabajar, con el fin de dar un paso más allá en la comprensión de las necesidades de cada ahorrador para afrontar su proceso inversor presente y futuro.
Obtener una gran rentabilidad no lo es todo, ya que, de inicio, el futuro es incierto y las sociedades avanzadas cada vez ofrecen menos posibilidades de enriquecimiento rápido a través de los métodos de inversión tradicionales. En vez de aspirar a rentabilidades inciertas, Bernstein prefiere apuntalar el concepto de procurarse un patrimonio suficiente para vivir, y, sobre todo, no morir sumido en la pobreza.
Resulta especialmente interesante la visión que se ofrece sobre la volatilidad, ese concepto que provoca tantas confusiones y discusiones entre quienes la consideran riesgo y quienes no. Lo cierto es que volatilidad no es sinónimo de riesgo, pero sà puede ser un tipo de riesgo. Mientras que un mercado volátil es una bendición para un joven inversor sin aversión a los movimientos bruscos del mercado, en las etapas de madurez próximas al retiro podrÃa primar la protección del capital y asegurar aquello que tanto esfuerzo ha costado generar.
