Es el tomo uno de una colección de 7 libros, llamada Canciones Infantiles Tradicionales Dominicanas; este tomo tiene como enfoque las Canciones Infantiles Tradicionales Educativas. Doña Semana consta con las letras de 34 canciones tradicionales infantiles, cada una con sus partituras musicales, con algunas ilustraciones, e información adicional como son: La dinámica del juego, el objetivo educativo de la canción y comentarios que muchas veces incluye lugares donde se cantan las canciones, origen de las mismas y más; además, en la introducción comparto un contenido educativo relacionado con las canciones infantiles, sus orÃgenes, elementos, rasgos y beneficios para los niños.
Esta colección fue investigada, compilada y escrita por la autora y poeta dominicana Maria Aduke Alabi, con prólogo del muy reconocido autor, sociólogo, folklorista y escritor dominicano Dagoberto Tejeda Ortiz, con ilustración de la dibujante Mexicana Scarlett Briseño Peñaloza y la creación de las partituras musicales hechas por la compositora y productora argentina Lucia Genes, editado por el Narrador, periodista y editor cubano, Lic. Rafael José RodrÃguez Pérez.
El propósito de esta compilación folklorica es la de divulgar y al mismo tiempo salvaguardar ese tesoro cultural que forma parte importante del folklore infantil latino como lo son las canciones infantiles, las cuales lastimosamente en estos tiempos están desapareciendo del repertorio infantil de los niños dentro y fuera de la isla Quisqueyana. Por lo que su rescate se ha vuelto una tarea que la autora ha tomado de forma muy personal.
Platón, uno de los filósofos más sobresalientes que ha dado la humanidad, defendÃa la utilización de la música antes que cualquier otra arte para la educación, pues para él la formación del alma debe ir primero que la formación del cuerpo.
Este primer volumen contiene canciones como son: La vaca lechera, Sal solecito, Pulgarcito, Pollito chicken, ParÃs se quema, La mar estaba serena, Viajar en tren, Una mosca, Debajo de un botón, Juan Paco Pedro, Brinca la tablita, Yo tenÃa diez perritos, Los esqueletos, Un elefante se balanceaba, Con medio peso, Hay un hoyo en el fondo de la mar, Chivita, chivita, La feria del maestro Andrés, entre otras.
Cada uno de estos cánticos infantiles, independientemente de su contenido lúdico, contribuye con la educación básica infantil y ayuda a los niños a integrarse con otros, impulsa el desarrollo de destrezas del lenguaje y fomenta el trabajo en grupo y el sentido de la colaboración, coordinación y desarrollo motor.
