Newly minted ( 30 year old) detective Rita Sanchez is thrown into an impossible situation, hired in an attempt to solve a series of unrelated murders and disappearances in a small coastal town named Moon Bay. She is particularly affected by the fate of the missing young girls, as she carries the pain of the disappearance of her younger sister from her hometown Juarez, Mexico, some 12 years prior.
Moon Bay does not bring the solace she was hoping for, as it is there that her relationship with her girlfriend and professional loyalties start to unravel. The one bright spot is the unexpected friendship she develops with the enigmatic Kristen, the wife of her Captain. For her, the friendship evolves into something more, as they bond over helping a child at risk avoid falling prey to victimization. Ultimately it is Kristen who helps her bring all these cases to a dangerous and shocking conclusion.
