Carta Consultatoria Del Doctor D. Joseph Pinilla Y Vizcayno, Al Doctor D. Timoteo O-scalan presents a detailed consultation by Dr. Joseph Pinilla y VizcaÃno to Dr. Timoteo O-scalan regarding the inoculation of smallpox. This historical document offers insight into the medical and ethical debates surrounding inoculation during the 18th century. The letter lays out the principal medical reasons and facts that both support and contradict the practice, inviting moral theologians to weigh in on the matter.
This work provides invaluable context for understanding the evolution of medical thought and practice in Spain, as well as the complex interplay between medicine, ethics, and religious belief during a critical period in medical history. Scholars of medical history and those interested in the history of science and theology will find this consultation a valuable resource.
