It is the winter solstice of 1846. Fafnir the dwarf's monstrous creation, the Great Clock, has begun to tick. With every turn of its thousands of gears beneath the earth, the world is slowly changing, but not for the better - at least not for Mankind. Frederick has discovered that Fafnir seeks yet another relic - the Eye of Odin, through which he will gain the power to see all the paths of time, and so shape the course of history and the future to his own ends. Now he is faced with the choice of either rescuing Colleen, who has been taken away by a giant, or trying to stop Fafnir from fulfilling his mad intentions for all the worlds. Colleen too is launched on her greatest adventure yet. She has been carried deep into the Beyond, the land where Grandpa has gone, and finds it to be a wondrous land of beauty and mystery. There she is given a quest - to somehow carry hope down to the land of the Giants. But she finds that she has been given an impossible task, for that world is being consumed by the Great Worm, and she cannot stop it. At last Frederick and Colleen meet in that dying land, and there must find a way to save the last of its people. More adventures, legends, fairy tales, strange creatures, and surprises are woven through the pages of this sixth book of The McGunnegal Chronicles. Enjoy!
