The Shape of Fire traces one man's relationship with anger across the changing seasons of his life. What begins as an unnamed childhood heat is shaped by expectation, shame, injustice and the need to belong. Through adolescence, career, marriage and public life, that inner fire becomes both armour and weapon: a source of conviction, ambition and moral courage, but also of damaged relationships and deepening isolation. When the certainties that once sustained him begin to collapse, he is forced to confront the beliefs beneath his anger and the consequences left in its wake. Moving from first spark to wildfire, and from smoke and mirrors to the steadier warmth of the hearth, the novel explores whether anger must consume us or whether it can be understood, contained and transformed. It is a psychologically observant story about responsibility, forgiveness and the difficult work of becoming whole.
