SHADOWS on the TRAIL, where the adventure of all adventures began! A small band of Paleoindians fight to survive in a violent and unpredictable world over 12,000 years ago. The late Pleistocene is a time of dramatic climate change, large mammal extinctions, and shifting alliances among those humans attempting to survive. SHADOWS on the TRAIL is about a mystical tribe of hunters and gatherers who are as much a part of the landscape as the animals they hunt and that hunt them. Join Chayton, Hexaka, and Namid on this emotional journey as they face natural disasters, predatory animals, and other hostile tribes of Paleoindians. The seed for SHADOWS on the TRAIL sprouted on an early summer morning in 2010 on a northern Colorado ranch when Author John Bradford Branney discovered a stone tool made by a Paleoindian from a red and gray striped rock from a prehistoric rock quarry in Texas. The author was the first human to touch this stone tool in over 12,000 years. As the author admired this beautiful prehistoric tool, several questions popped into his head. How did this stone tool end up in a prehistoric campsite five hundred miles north of the prehistoric rock quarry where the rock was from? Who made this stone tool? What was this person like? What happened on the journey from the Panhandle of Texas to northern Colorado? Since it was impossible for the author to ask the Paleoindian these questions, John Bradford Branney wrote his own version of the rock and its maker's journey.
