A picture book for children ages 3-7, set in the ancient Persian village of Abyaneh, about a girl, her rooster, and learning to let someone you love grow up.
Written in English, in Persian, and in Persian spelled out in English letters - using the Englisi Farsi transliteration system - so parents who speak Persian but never learned to read it can read aloud to their kids too.
When Shaadi can't find her rooster Joojoo, she asks everyone in the village: her neighbors, the local baker, the shepherd boy. Has anyone seen her friend?
What they tell her surprises her. Shaadi has cared for Joojoo since he was a tiny chick, and she never noticed that he had grown into a big, strong bird.
Set in the red-earth village of Abyaneh, one of the oldest villages in Iran, this is a story about love, friendship, and seeing someone as they really are.
Is this book right for your child?
- Ages 3-7. Short, warm text for reading aloud.
