I wrote it because I watched.
For a long time.
I watched faces shaped by time without mercy.
I watched bodies that had grown slower, sometimes painful.
But above all, I watched eyes - present, lucid, sometimes sad, sometimes strikingly alive.
Aging is not what we think it is.
It is neither a fixed state, nor a simple decline, nor a disease in disguise.
It is a passage.
And like any passage, it can be crossed alone or accompanied, respected or denied, illuminated or left in the shadows.
