Back in the 1950's, there was a group of bored boys who were dying in class while learning to diagram a sentence and looking for that dangling participle. They weren't like the other kids. But they weren't bad or trouble makers, they just had different interests. They didn't like sports or lying around watching TV. They liked doing things. And learning from what they were doing. And they liked doing these things together.
The other kids laughed at them and called them names. One of the names was Science Guys because they were always doing experiments, making gadgets, and just doing stuff the other kids didn't understand. The boys liked the name and claimed it for themselves. At first, they officially called their club the Seminole Science Club, but soon dropped that and just referred to themselves as The Science Guys.
The time frame was during the late 1950s and early 1960s, and the boys all lived around Seminole Blvd. on the south side of St. Petersburg, Florida. The boys all went to Glen Oak Elementary School and then Southside Junior High.
The Science Guys' favorite time to get involved in their scientific endeavors was during summer vacation. That's what this little collection of stories is all about. I hope you'll enjoy their adventures. As a final note, no boys were (seriously) injured during their activities.
