Scandinavian Immigrants In New York, 1630-1674 is a historical book written by John Oluf Evjen in 1916. The book provides a comprehensive account of the Scandinavian immigrants who arrived in New York during the period of 1630-1674. The author explores the reasons why these immigrants left their homeland and journeyed to the New World, the challenges they faced in their new environment, and the impact they had on the development of New York City. The book is divided into four parts, with the first part focusing on the early history of Scandinavia and the reasons why people left their homeland. The second part delves into the experiences of the Scandinavian immigrants in New York, including their interactions with other ethnic groups and the challenges they faced in adapting to their new environment. The third part examines the economic and social contributions of the Scandinavian immigrants to New York City, including their involvement in the fur trade, shipping industry, and the establishment of the Lutheran Church. The final part of the book provides a detailed account of the lives of individual Scandinavian immigrants, including their personal stories, family histories, and the impact they had on their communities. The book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of immigration to the United States, particularly the experiences of Scandinavian immigrants in New York City during the 17th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
