Matthew Sands, born in 1774 in Virginia, was a farmer who survived the Year without a Summer in 1816 and raised a family. His grandson, Samuel Field(ing) Sands, fought for the confederated states during the War for Southern Independence. With descendants spread across the United States, including Illinois, Florida, and Tennessee, this book provides a wealth of historical family photographs, documents, and references.
