The war has lasted two hundred years.
Then two enemies fall out of the sky.
John Quinn is a human engineer. Vaelira of Clan Korvath is an Adr'zed physician and soldier. Their peoples have spent generations trying to destroy one another. Now the two of them are stranded together on an unknown world, twenty metres apart, with damaged ships, with limited supplies and no way home.
They have four minutes to decide whether to kill each other.
They have eight years to survive together.
Bantara is a world of impossible landscapes, strange moons and mysteries that neither science nor military doctrine can explain. As John and Vaelira struggle to stay alive, necessity forces them to cross the oldest boundary in their respective civilisations: the one between enemy and ally.
What begins as a fight for survival becomes something neither of them expected.
And somewhere beyond their valley, someone is listening.
Rough Science is the first book of The Outcast State, a science-fiction saga of survival, first contact, alien cultures, hard science and the dangerous consequences of discovering that the universe is not quite what you thought it was.
What wonders hold...
