The table is growing. The chair is open. And not everyone who needs a seat knows how to ask for one.
Raven Greer built her backyard table with rules, food, and one stubborn belief: people tell the truth differently when they are fed well and made to feel safe. What started as one dinner has become something bigger than she planned - a chosen family, a tradition, and a place where strangers stop feeling like strangers by dessert.
Now Raven and Sage are married, the original Room for Eight family is still standing, and the table has earned a new question:
What happens when you leave one seat open for someone who needs it?
In Room for Eight: The Open Seat, Raven, Sage, Nia, Adrian, Raj, Frankie, Terrence, Alice, and the people they love begin a new dinner series built around one empty chair. Each night, the Open Seat is offered to someone outside the original circle - a guest carrying grief, secrets, fear, loneliness, or the kind of story people usually keep quiet because they are tired of being misunderstood.
But making room is not simple.
As the table grows, so do the complications. New guests bring new truths. Old wounds surface in unexpected ways. Nia and Elias try to figure out what they are without rushing into what everyone else already sees. Adrian learns that jokes cannot protect him from every feeling. Raj keeps trying to manage the room like control can save everybody. Frankie, Alice, Terrence, and the rest of the family discover that love is not only about showing up when things are easy.
And Raven, who has always known how to feed people, has to face the harder question: how much can one table hold before care turns into pressure?
When one guest's pain hits too close to home, Raven begins to wonder whether the Open Seat asks too much from people who are already vulnerable. The table was meant to be a place of safety, not performance. A place of welcome, not exposure. And if Raven cannot protect that difference, she may have to close the seat before someone gets hurt.
Warm, funny, intimate, and emotionally honest, Room for Eight: The Open Seat is a story about chosen family, healing, boundaries, love after fear, and the courage it takes to make room without losing yourself.
Because at Raven's table, dinner is never just dinner.
And sometimes the empty chair is the one that changes everything.
