Jeremy and Beth Parker are on their way to Kauai for their thirtieth anniversary. He is a retired Detroit Police Detective, and she is a second grade teacher in the local school system. During their years of marriage and raising children, they never had, nor could they afford such a trip, until now. Although they anticipated celebrating their union with two weeks in the Garden Isle, from the very start their trip is plagued with problems that threatened, not only their dream vacation, but their very lives. Even traveling there becomes an adventure; and upon reaching their destination they become embroiled in a controversy over the history of Kauai. Unintended circumstances cause their lives to become intertwined with a local police officer and two young women, with whom they become personally involved. The story is set against the beauty of the island, and takes them on an adventure that they could never have planned, or even dreamed about. Drawn into the sub-culture of a fanatical group, which intends to seize control of the island and return it to its ancient roots, they must struggle against corrupt men and the forces of nature to remain alive. Their journey will test the limits of their physical and emotional endurance, while trying to outwit and overcome their adversaries. How will they survive in an environment that is totally foreign to them, and with nothing to defend themselves, except themselves? Much of the book is based upon a mixture of actual, true-life experiences, fictional events, and historical facts. The author will also use his experience as a world traveler, with an appetite for history, adventure, and intrigue, to enhance the storyline. Through much research and personal knowledge he blends these characteristics into the book. The result is both a believable, and yet exotic tale of adventure.
